Addiction Treatment Center
Addiction is defined as the biological or psychological dependence of the body on any substance or an activity. Addiction is the highest degree of affinity for something which virtually brings it to the point of compulsive dependence. What an addiction treatment centre aims at doing is reduce this affinity gradually and step by step, so as to lower the person's dependency on it and finally achieve full recovery from the addiction. There are a number of addictions like exercise addiction, nicotine addiction, games addiction, internet addiction, Eve's addiction, Adderall addiction, computer addiction, coffee addiction, video games addiction, cell phone addiction and other such addictions which are milder in form. However, the two major types of addiction are substance addiction and alcohol/tobacco addiction.
An Addiction treatment centre generally deals with patients who are patients of substance addiction, or alcohol addiction. An Addiction treatment centre may also be sometimes referred to as a rehabilitation centre. These centres have a step by step methodical procedure through which a person may come back to complete normalcy which includes a healthy body and a healthy mind.
Substance addiction may be of several categories. Some are addicted to opium, oxycontin, brown sugar, cocaine, marijuana, weed, hashish, ganja, and charas and so on. The other type of substances includes cough syrup, codex, and such random substances which may provide a high. These are sometimes called "hostel drugs" since they are usually used by hostel students.
Another category is plain alcohol addiction. An addiction treatment centre offers a treatment known as "detoxification" in which the addictive substance is chemically excreted out of the body in the form of sweat and urine. This reduces the "biological addiction" to a very great extent. However, psychological addiction being the major part of addiction, detoxification is not enough.
An addiction treatment centre may or may not offer the full procedure. For instance, some centres incorporate certain activities which may be highly beneficial to the patient whereas others may incorporate in the procedure certain other relevant activities. In an addiction treatment centre, individuals are made to write an inventory at times, or a journal, or a diary where they would pour out all their psychological stress.
They have input and output sessions wherein they are told certain specific things about addictions and the biological and psychological aspects of it in the input session, while in the output session the patients express how relevant the specific thing is, to their case.
In rehab centres, there are specific time slots in a day which are assigned to activities like meditation, yoga, sports, games, reading, writing and so on. There is a strict timing for them to wake up in the morning which is usually an early hour, and similarly, bed-time.
